The privacy claim has independent audit backing

NordVPN's no-logs claim has an independent audit behind it. PrivateVPN does not currently have a completed independent no-logs or security audit. If outside verification is part of your trust bar, this is the most important documented difference in the pair.

Multi-hop and split tunneling add two different controls

NordVPN has a confirmed multi-hop route in the current feature set. Built-in multi-hop is not part of PrivateVPN's confirmed feature set. NordVPN has split tunneling on at least part of its supported platform set. Split tunneling is not confirmed as available for PrivateVPN. One changes the route inside the VPN; the other lets some traffic avoid the tunnel. They solve different problems, and both are confirmed here.

The trade-off is the missing extras

The audit, multi-hop, and split-tunneling gaps are the trade-off on the PrivateVPN side. If you do not need those things, the narrower feature set may still be enough. If you do, the decision is straightforward.
